Chrissie Choo

Founder
CoCreates, Media Clubroom

Chrissie, an esteemed educator and entrepreneur with expertise in communication design and visual storytelling, holds a postgraduate degree in Masters of the Arts (Research and Practice) from Queensland University of Technology, Australia. As the visionary behind COCREATES.CO, Chrissie leads a company committed to shaping the future through collaboration.

She currently serves as a senior lecturer at The Glasgow School of Art, Singapore, where she has been instrumental in nurturing aspiring artists for over a decade, fostering their creativity and skill development through self-mastery and a growth-oriented mindset.

Her story

Chrissie discovered her love for visual storytelling when she studied videography at Temasek Polytechnic. She then pursued her master’s degree in film from the University of Queensland, and directed her first short film, Queue, which explored the theme of “reality vs unreality”. She later joined Glasgow School of Arts, where she rose as pioneer lecturer, developing new modules and course structures for the university.

However, contracting the dreaded Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease (HFMD) from her son in January of 2017 changed her perspective on life. Being heavily pregnant at the time, her immune system was naturally compromised, leading to painful blisters covering her entire body, marking the hardest two months of her life.

The traumatic experience bestowed upon her a newfound perspective on life. Today, she finds solace in meticulously examining every detail to be thankful for in life, discovering a fresh passion for assisting others in finding their unique paths.

Her career

Chrissie’s illustrious career as a filmmaker has earned her numerous accolades. Her work has been recognized at prestigious film festivals such as the Korean Film Festival, Boston Film Festival, New York Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival’s short film corner. She has also spearheaded successful collaborative projects for students at ITE and Glasgow School of Arts.

Chrissie founded COCREATES.CO, which operates as a community platform, utilizing cloud-based technology and design thinking to empower clients, communities, and young talents. The company also organizes exhibitions to showcase the work of its partners and collaborators, including notable events like the INSTINC D;Art Festival, Wide2Tall Films showcase, Purple Parade, and community events at Ten Square- Landmark for Good.

Her passion

However, Chrissie felt that something was missing in her life. She came to the realization that she desired to utilize her skills and talents to make an impact on others.
That’s when she decided to enroll in a program called Ultimate Self Mastery led by Peter Sage — a speaker, author and mentor. This program is designed to empower individuals to achieve their goals and aspirations by mastering their emotions and mindset. Using these acquired skills, she now helps other people learn techniques for overcoming obstacles like procrastination, self sabotage and negative thought patterns that hinder success.
Her dedication extends beyond personal growth. She is also an environmental enthusiast, diver, and loving mother of two. Committed to making a difference, she aspires to be part of the solution in turning the state of climate change around for future generations or, at the very least, to make the world a friendlier place while trying.

I got to know Chrissie last year through the ASEAN China India Youth Leadership Summit 2023 held by OSG Youth Alliance. I recently approached her for insights on a project I'm currently working on, which involves integrating cultural heritage into education. She didn't hold back and shared her valuable insights with me.
